Facebook adds two new relationship status - Civil Union and Domestic Partnership

Facebook the most widely used social networking site has added two new relationship status for the citizens of US, Canada, France, UK and Australia.

The two new status messages are “In a civil union' and “In a domestic partnership”. These are in addition to the existing single, in a relationship, in an open relationship, engaged, married, divorced, widowed and separated status.

“Civil Union” or “Domestic Partnership” is a term used for same sex marriages. Some countries and its states use “civil union” term while others use the latter.

Human-rights groups have hailed this as significant step forward for the greater equality of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community and of same sex unions. These two status have been added on public demand.

This step of Facebook has got an overwhelming response from the LGBT communities of these countries as they believe this step of Facebook promotes equality in all the sections of the society specially for those who earlier where not able to express their relationships status.
