How To Quickly Disable Tabs In Gmail

How To Quickly Disable Tabs In Gmail

About a year ago, Google rolled out a new update to Gmail to automatically sort emails by tabs. The tabs feature in Gmail is helpful as it tries to keep your primary inbox from spams by automatically moving emails to appropriate categories. For instance, notification emails from Google Plus and other social networks now land under Social tab instead of the primary inbox.

Without a doubt, this is a cool feature to keep your primary inbox clean, without sending messages from social sites to the spam folder. But, if for some reason, you prefer the old tab-free look of Gmail, here is how you can disable tabs in Gmail.

Luckily, you don't need to install any browser extension to disable these tabs. You just need to follow the given below instructions to quickly all tabs or only a single tab in Gmail.

Turn off tabs in Gmail

Method 1 of 2

Step 1: Sign-in to your Gmail by entering your credentials.

Step 2: When you are in the inbox, click on the “+” button that appears right after the last tab. That is, if Promotions is the last tab, then the “+” button appears right after the Promotions tab.

Step 3: Select tabs to enable dialog should now appear on your screen. Here, uncheck all the checked boxes to disable all tabs before clicking the Save button.

And if you want disable only a single tab, simply deselect the box next to the name of the tab and then click Save button. Note that you can't deselect the Primary box as it's the primary inbox. That's it!

Method 2 of 2

Step 1: Sign-in to your Gmail account.

Step 2: Click on the small Gear icon (that appears right below your account picture) and then click Settings to open Gmail settings page.

Step 3: Here, switch to the Inbox tab.

Step 4: Under Categories section, uncheck the boxes labelled Social and Promotions and then click Save changes button.
