IFTTT update brings VoIP Calls support

If This Then That is a handy online service that you may use to automate things on your computer or mobile devices.

The service calls these recipes applets, and they enable you to automate all kinds of things; examples include getting a weather report notification each day at 7 am, saving email attachments automatically to a cloud storage service, or tweeting your Instagrams as native photos on Twitter.

According to the IFTTT website, more than 400 services are supported by it at the time of writing.

We reviewed IFTTT back in 2011 when the service was released, and the IFTTT Android application in 2014 when it was published.

IFTTT update brings VoIP Calls support

The most recent version of the IFTTT mobile application for Android and iOS introduces a new feature that international users will benefit the most from: VoIP Calls support.

The service supported phone call functionality before, but only for users from the US. Now with VoIP Calls support, all users may use the recipes that made use of phone call functionality. US users have both options at their disposal now, international users VoIP functionality only.

Voice over IP (VoIP) delivers phone call messages through the IFTTT app to your device. It's available internationally and is an excellent alternative to the Phone Call service. All you need is the latest version of the IFTTT app.

IFTTT lists available recipes on the website, and in the service's mobile applications. Want some examples? Here you go:

VoIP basically is just another means to receive notifications on IFTTT. Instead of receiving notification emails, app notifications, text messages or chat messages, you may now receive calls when you make use of the new VoIP Calls functionality.

The new version comes with additional improvements. It features new Gmail options, for instance using cc and bcc, drafting emails, or sending emails to yourself.

Other improvements include the addition of 30 new services that work with government and non-profit data, a new Google Photos service, and stability and speed improvements.

Android users can download the latest version from Android store, iOS users from iTunes.

Verdict

The new VoIP Calls functionality improves IFTTT significantly for international users of the service, as it adds a new notification or contact option to the application.
