It's the season of Windows 8 and it's raining tablet devices all over the consumer market. Every major manufacturer is determined to ship out their own Windows 8 tablet, right from Samsung, Acer, Lenovo to Dell. Many of the slates are packed with impressive specifications inside a commendable hardware build with the flexibility to use the tablet device as you wish. Among them is the Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx, a 'hybrid' which can be used both as a laptop and a tablet with a touch interface.

Unlike its cousins (the IdeaPad Yoga 13 and IdeaPad Yoga 11), this new device from Lenovo allows the user to simply detach the screen from the keyboard dock and use it as a native tablet and can later be simply plugged into the keyboard dock to use it as a fully functional laptop: an option which can underline its significance in the present tablet market scenario and may successfully lure consumers on shelling bucks for this feasibility.
With an 11.6 inch screen, the IdeaTab Lynx sports a screen larger than the Microsoft Surface tab and weighs just 0.64 kg without the keyboard dock (1.3 kg with the keyboard). The IPS display screen is responsive and a pleasure to nab fingers on given its support for five-point capacitive multi-touch with a resolution of 1366 X 768 pixels.
Unlike its other compatriots, the IdeaTab Lynx runs the actual Windows 8 operating system and not Windows RT (the tablet-ized version). This enables the user to dwell in the complete Windows 8 experience coupled with the ability to run all apps in desktop mode. Running on the new 1.8 GHz dual-core “Clovertrail” Intel Atom Z2760 processor, this hybrid device hosts 2GB of RAM memory and an optional 32GB/64GB of eMMC flash storage.
The IdeaTab Lynx tablet device sports a micro-USB port, a micro-HDMI port, and a microSD card slot while the keyboard dock adds in two USB 2.0 ports (USB 3.0 ports would have been great). Other worth-mentioning facilities within the IdeaTab Lynx are Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, stereo speakers, dual digital microphones, a 2 MP front-facing camera and a Gyro sensor.
Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx Price
The Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx is a costly affair. Users can either opt for the tablet device at $599 or add the keyboard dock to the system at $149, bringing the whole package to $748. Lenovo intends to start shipping the IdeaTab Lynx from early December 2012.
In this highly competitive tablet market, the IdeaTab Lynx may be forced to take a back-seat due to its price ($748), esp when we have the reputed Microsoft Surface chipping in at just $599 with the Touch Cover too. And with new Windows 8 devices being launched every now and then, it's to be seen as to how Lenovo plans to stay firm in the competition.
